Speed is the Brother HL-5100DN’s hallmark of fame. Its rated speed is forty-two pages per minute, and it holds up well when printing single-sided text files, and holds up reasonably well in more complex prints; much faster than the Epson WorkForce ET-750 or the Brother MFC-L3770CDW laser printer, which run slowly for a very short time, although the print quality is much worse.
It’s slightly faster than Brother’s own MMFCL2750DW, though this speed difference is negligible in the real world, and the print quality is worse, which makes sense, considering it’s a cheap printer.

It’s unfortunate that it struggles with very small text, and it’s puzzling why Brother eschews wi-fi networks altogether without stepping up to a more expensive unit. But despite its flaws, it’s a very compelling delivery just through the distinctive features of its hefty payday.
